What the converter does, and does not, promise
Six checks, shown on every conversionAccurate extraction
Every conversion is reconciled against the printed opening and closing balances and the running-balance column. The engine is tested against synthetic statements from eight regions on every release, and the result of each check is shown to you, not hidden.
Universal bank support
The parser works from the structure of the page, not a template per bank, so statements from institutions we have never seen convert the same way. Column names, date order and number formats are detected per statement.
Reconciliation checking
Opening + credits − debits must equal closing. Each balance must follow from the previous one. Rows outside the period, duplicated across a page break or repeated verbatim are flagged. The result is a Conversion Confidence Score.
Private and secure
Files are encrypted in transit, stored under random keys in private storage, and deleted automatically. Originals are deleted 24 hours after processing; exports and extracted transactions 7 days after conversion; Delete now removes everything immediately. Account numbers are stored masked.
Scanned PDFs
Scanned statements are included on every plan; password-protected PDFs from Starter. Image-only pages are straightened and read with OCR on our own servers. Words carry confidences; rows built from doubtful words are flagged and the arithmetic checks corroborate each amount.
Batch conversion
Paid plans convert many statements at once, download them as a ZIP, or merge several statements into one export with consistent columns.
How to convert a bank statement
- 1
Upload your statement
Drop a PDF into the converter above. Text and scanned files are accepted on every plan, password-protected PDFs from Starter. The file is inspected immediately and you see the page count and document type before anything else happens.
- 2
Choose a format
CSV, Excel, QBO, OFX or JSON. Options such as the CSV column profile, delimiter and date format are set before conversion and can be changed afterwards.
- 3
Review the result
The extracted table is shown next to the original page. Rows that need attention are flagged with an icon and a reason. Click any row to highlight where it came from; edit, add, merge or split rows if needed.
- 4
Download
Download your file, or several formats at once. Exports are regenerated whenever you edit, and the Conversion Report records which checks passed.
From statement to table
A fictional two-page checking statement after extraction. Opening and closing balances are recognised as statement metadata; the balance test confirms 8,420.00 + 2,820.00 − 1,939.37 = 9,300.63 and every running balance follows from the previous one.

Works with statements from any bank
Our converter is built to work with any bank statement, from any bank, in any country. Statement layouts differ between institutions and change over time, so instead of a template per bank the parser reads the structure of the page: it finds the transaction table by the meaning of its headers, infers the columns from the values beneath them, and parses dates and numbers in the format the statement actually uses. The result is checked against the statement's own balances, so you know whether it is complete before you download it.
Which layouts have been tested, and which banks we expect to work but have not individually verified, is listed on supported banks. Banking Converter is not affiliated with any bank.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a PDF bank statement to Excel or CSV?
Upload the PDF in the converter at the top of this page, choose Excel or CSV, review the extracted rows and download. There is no software to install. The Excel converter and CSV converter pages describe each format in detail.
Does it work with scanned bank statements?
Yes. Image-only pages are rotated and deskewed, then read with OCR. Rows built from low-confidence words are flagged for review, and the running-balance check corroborates each amount. See the scanned statement converter.
Which banks are supported?
Any bank whose statement contains a transaction table, because the parser works from page structure rather than per-bank templates. The supported banks page lists which layout families are tested and which real banks we expect to work but have not individually verified.
Is my financial data safe?
Files are encrypted in transit, stored privately under random keys, and deleted automatically. Originals are deleted 24 hours after processing; exports and extracted transactions 7 days after conversion; Delete now removes everything immediately. Full details are on the security page.
How accurate is the conversion?
Every conversion is reconciled against the statement's own balances and totals, and you see the result before you download. We test the engine against synthetic statements from eight regions, but we do not publish a real-world accuracy percentage because it depends on the quality of each document. Flagged rows and the confidence score tell you what to check.
Can I edit transactions before downloading?
Yes. The review screen lets you change any cell, add or delete rows, merge wrapped lines or split combined entries, with the source page highlighted beside the table. Exports are regenerated after edits.
What formats can I download?
CSV (three column profiles, comma or semicolon), Excel workbooks, JSON, OFX 2.x and QBO for QuickBooks. Several formats can be downloaded from the same conversion. The free plan converts to CSV and Excel; QBO, OFX and JSON start on Starter.
Do you convert currencies?
No. Amounts are kept exactly as printed, in the statement's own currency, and the currency is recorded in the export.
What about password-protected PDFs?
Converting an encrypted PDF requires a paid plan, from Starter up; on the free plan, remove the password from the file first. On a paid plan you enter the password when prompted: it is used to open the file, held encrypted only while the job runs, then deleted, and it is never written to logs. See converting password-protected statements.
How much does it cost?
The free plan includes 25 pages per month with no card required. The free plan converts to CSV and Excel; QBO, OFX and JSON start on Starter. Paid plans also add more pages, batch upload, ZIP download, merged exports, password-protected PDFs and API access. See pricing.
Do you use AI on my statements?
Extraction is deterministic. An optional AI step can be used only to resolve ambiguous column mapping, using a small redacted sample of header and cell text, and it is never used to train models. Whether it is enabled in this deployment is stated on the subprocessors page.
Is there an API?
Yes. Upload a PDF, poll the conversion status and download exports with an API key. The API overview documents the endpoints, error codes and rate limits. API access is included in paid plans.
